Relationship Therapy

I work with both individuals and couples in Tavistock, St Austell and Lostwithiel to explore many reasons why you are struggling in your relationship. You may be experiencing difficulties with boundaries or attachment issues, be stuck in conflict or mistrust or experiencing difficulties around intimacy.

What brings people to therapy?

Relationships can provide a sense of security, closeness and connection but when there are breakdowns in a relationship, they can be a source of pain, conflict and confusion. Many people seek relationship therapy when there are communication difficulties, a loss of intimacy, or they have a sense of being alone in the relationship.

Relationship therapy can help slow things down, help you understand unhelpful patterns of behaviour and find healthy ways of communicating.

Reasons why you may seek relationship therapy:
  • Conflict and repeated unhelpful behaviour patterns
  • Emotional disconnection from partner
  • Insecurity and mistrust
  • Rebuilding after an affair
  • Intimacy and desire discrepancies
  • Attachment and relationship anxiety
  • Navigating diverse relationships (polyamory, same-sex, open relationships)
Through my clinical work I have experience in working with LGBTQIA+ relationships and the unique nuances these bring for individuals.

Rebuilding connection together

Relationship therapy is a calm, structured space to slow things down and explore what is happening between you — or within you in relation to others. Sessions are collaborative and non-judgemental.

There is no taking of sides. Whether you come as a couple or as an individual, the aim is to help you understand the patterns that have developed, communicate more honestly and find a way forward that feels right for both of you.
  • All relationships face difficulties. Sometimes problems build slowly — ongoing conflict, distance, resentment, feeling unheard. Other times something significant happens such as an affair, a crisis, or a major life transition.
  • Couples therapy offers a structured space to understand what’s happening between you, improve communication, and rebuild connection. I work with couples face-to-face from my practices in Tavistock, Devon and St Austell and Lostwithiel, Cornwall, as well as online across the UK. (online currently suspended)

Is Relationship Therapy Right for You?

Relationship therapy tends to suit people who sense that something in their relationship has shifted — or perhaps has never quite worked — but who find it difficult to talk about openly, either with their partner or with those close to them.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come simply feeling disconnected, unheard or stuck in the same arguments. Others arrive at a more critical point — after an affair, a significant loss or a breakdown in trust. Both are valid reasons to seek support.

If you're unsure whether relationship therapy is right for you, the free introductory consultation is a good place to start — a no-pressure conversation to explore what is going on and whether working together might help.
