Therapy
What happens first?
Once you contact me I will arrange an initial telephone conversation. Our first session is an opportunity for you to explore what you would like to achieve in therapy and to ask any questions. This session enables you to find out more about me and how I may be able to help you. I offer a number of sessions at a reduced rate for individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford therapy, please contact me for further details. I have a limited number of sessions available for counselling students, please get in touch if you would like to discuss this with me.
How long does therapy last?
This is driven by yourself, and there are no definitive timeframes for therapy. Some clients with a specific problem may only need short term therapy that may last a few months. Alternatively, deep-seated problems will require a longer-term approach. It is beneficial to have your sessions on a weekly basis to allow the therapeutic process to develop without interruption.
How do I know if therapy is the right fit for me?
Your initial session will give you the chance to get to know me and discuss what your hopes for therapy are, this allows you the opportunity to decide if I am the right therapist for you. This can also be discussed at any future point within your sessions.
Can I stop therapy at any time?
It is never advisable to just stop therapy, it is much better to plan this in advance, this ensures the therapeutic relationship ends successfully with you understanding how the process has helped you. We can discuss time frames at your first appointment.
Are my sessions confidential?
Everything that is discussed within your session remains confidential and I abide by the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). There are exceptional circumstances when confidentiality may need to be broken - this is explained within my contract and privacy statement.
